Why me?

By Kayleigh Rengger (17)

Can’t have a job,
To call money my own,
Spending days, weeks, months in hospital,
Makes me feel alone.

Need to go to school,
To learn and see my mates,
Worries me that I’m not learning,
And that this will affect my grades.

Want to hang round town,
Go spending with my mates,
Use my own money for stuff,
Instead of receiving it on important dates.

I’d like to be like everyone else in my class,
And last through school all day,
Instead of being stuck in the house,
Just for once get my own way.

Wish my life was the old way,
Being treated like everyone else,
Instead of people staring at me,
And getting smiles that are false.

I’m grateful for everyone’s support,
And want to thank you for everything you’ve done,
Knowing I’ve got cancer is scary,
But I think, and I hope that I’ve won.
