Butterfly
Kayleigh Rengger

Kayleigh was diagnosed with leukaemia when she was 14. She has written poetry throughout her treatment which has helped her cope and express her feelings during her illness. ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Rollercoaster of a lifetime’ are just two of her poems.

BUTTERFLY

Wish I could escape,
Go fly away,
Leave all the pain behind me,
Find a better day.

Wish I could escape,
Flap my wings and disappear,
Forget about my troubles,
Let go of all the fear.

Wish I could escape,
Forever be in flight,
Discover exciting new places,
With colours dull and bright.

Wish I could escape,
Flutter my wings through time,
Without a care in the world,
Wish I was a butterfly.

ROLLERCOASTER OF A LIFETIME

It’s the rollercoaster of a lifetime,
Going round and round,
Going round in circles,
And going up and down.

It’s the rollercoaster of a lifetime,
A never-ending journey,
For you it means nothing,
For me, inside it’s burning.

It’s the rollercoaster of a lifetime,
Can go either fast or slow,
But when it breaks down,
You just wanna get up and go.

It’s the rollercoaster of a lifetime,
Scary, I know it can be,
Lucky I have all my friends,
And my supportive family.

Can’t wait till it’s all over,
The end isn’t far from near,
This Leukaemia I have,
Should be gone by the end of 2 Years.
